Although this looks like an arching stroke of ground-to-ground lightning (no, I've never heard of such a thing), it is actually two bolts originating from the same point in the cloud.

Standing out on the overlook to get this picture was an exercise in very poor judgement. Catching daytime lightning without overexposing the shot is a pain, and so I don't usually try it. But this storm was active enough that I could count on some lightning every 15-20 seconds, which seemed to be about the max I could pull off with slow film at the smallest aperature.

Right. So I find it hard not to photograph the sky.

This picture is my first real "studio shot". I put it together for a "Fruit & Veggie" contest at DPChallenge. The shot placed 21st out of 201 images.

The sun setting through the anvil of a dissipating thunderstorm compelled me to pull over on the way home from work for a few sky pictures.

Exhausted Woods

WHERE: East Flagstaff, facing Mars Hill
WHEN: September 14, 2002
As some scattered storms tried to bring rain, I wandered around a quiet industrial area grabbing some pictures in the evening light. The trees on Mars hill give the impression of fall foliage at first glance, but the golden colored trees are actually dead ponderosas that were killed by a drought-enhanced bark beetle infestation.
