Better Late Than Never
ooooooh! For once this whole Winter, we finally got actual, real snow.
The kids basically went insane. They haven't gotten to play in the snow deeper than a fingernail in about a year. I drove home from work Friday and saw a huge swarm of kids at the park (aka barren field with a sidewalk) down the street from our house. There was Amanda sitting at the side of a steep hill watching the kids sledding down the packed slope. I hung out with them for a bit wearing my standard civilian attire, before feeling the frigid misery to the very depths of my guts.
Today, Giselle spent the whole day down there, sledding, snowball fighting, and trying to burrow tunnels in it. I finally worked up my gumption, put on the cold-weather gear I bought for astronomy last month. I got my snowboarding pants, my snow boots, my various layers, my monster coat, and my balaclava. Say it with my now: "balaclava". It's ok if you try to use that in a sentence randomly, even when it doesn't apply. Anyway, I joined Giselle down there, and after listening to her complain about how our sled is stupid and it doesn't go fast, we decided to build forts. Giselle used the sled as the main wall for hers. I built mine from scratch. I modelled it after Squidwerd's snow fort. We didn't get to test the robustness of the forts with an all-out snowball war, before her friends showed up with a 'good' sled and she ran off to join them. Lucky girl.
I went back in for a break, and then dragged Harrison out with help from Amanda getting him suited up. We did some extra work on my fort just for the sake of doing it. Then we went and showed Giselle how good our sled really is. Here's some pictures in case you're interested =)
